Wow! My apologies for the delayed posting.
Well, Rory the Brave finished her 5th round of Chemo last week, the doctors are saying this will help the odds of this evil cancer not returning after surgery. It is still unsure as to whether she will undergo round 6 or have surgery next to remove the tumor(s). She is doing PT to help her little legs stretch and strengthen - she still is not walking and her dad reports she's running everywhere on her little knees. They have put play pads down in the hallway so she can motor with less bruising. They have been able to take her out for walks in the stroller and her amazing parents are being very proactive about her care. She is up and talkative and positive while her parents are exhausted.
Runningwise, i am still plugging away, racking up miles, and have been running up and down mountains near home, two weekends ago up at 8500 ft (ish). This weekend i go up to Leadville to start running portions of the race course. I try to keep pace with Rory as i strengthen my legs and push up hills, strengthen my feet going down - still loving my slipper-like trail-running shoes. Figuring out nutrition is always a challenge - for all of us, right? :) I found some gel-like substances and shakes that keep my energy up for the long haul, although I might have to do some of those blended healthy shakes like Rory!!!
The weather has heated up here, with record-breaking highs, and yet there is much green and and abundance of wildflowers abloom. It's amazing how much food and medicine grows all around here. I can't wait to take Rory hiking to share this with her someday.
I have yet to gather more pledges, please please send this link to anyone you know, and remember to sign up for me to fly a ribbon in your loved ones name(s) on race day, if you haven't already!
Thank Everyone for your prayers and support!
Well Folks, I gave it my all at the Leadville 100-Mile "Race Across the Sky" this year ~ I made it 60 miles!
I was late for the cutoff time, so did not go on.
My team was beyond incredible - and the support from all of you has been overwhelming.
My goal and belief had been to be stronger and able to gather more miles for your pledges ~ I also was humbled and learned a great deal about perseverence. This leaves me even more in awe of little Rory's strengths.
Thank You with all my heart for your pledge per mile. Please click on the link to the right to donate your pledge x 60.
Or if you prefer other arrangements, please send me an email at: spiritrunning@gmail.com
Rory is my beautiful 2-year-old niece and god-daughter who was diagnosed with a rare form of late-stage, high-risk cancer on February 24th this year. She is a little fighter with a mighty spirit, brave through countless procedures, chemo treatments, therapies, and surgeries.
Rory is now walking with the help of her parents, a foot brace, and PT every day. I am so proud of her!
I commit! I won't quit! I am going to continue to work hard, hard and get as strong as i can to keep up with her. Way to set the bar up there, Rory!!
