Little Rory continues to fight - her counts were low and took awhile to come up, they thought they might have to do a platelet transfusion and her next round of chemo was uncertain. She has been having more side-effects from the treatment, and has lost a bit of hearing in one ear - high pitches as only the tiny tots can hear. As of today, her counts are back up, and she is on-track for Round 4 of Chemo this Wednesday. GO RORY!!!
I am finally back on track after ankle pain and a cold-like illness. Yesterday was 18 miles on the Mesa Trail and Dowdy Draw, took a bunch of pictures of the wildflowers that are blooming for Rory. I am loving my new light trail shoes, they are like flying along in slippers, and my feet and ankles are building up to the lower profile sneaks. Last week I ran up Green Mountain locally, and tripped on the way down - saved my sternum from a lovely lichen-covered rock, but got some scrapes knees and hands - it made me look tough, like all the local mountain bikers here! oh, yeah! No injuries, and running free.
Today is Alex, Rory's Dad's birthday- help me grant that his every wish comes true.
Well Folks, I gave it my all at the Leadville 100-Mile "Race Across the Sky" this year ~ I made it 60 miles!
I was late for the cutoff time, so did not go on.
My team was beyond incredible - and the support from all of you has been overwhelming.
My goal and belief had been to be stronger and able to gather more miles for your pledges ~ I also was humbled and learned a great deal about perseverence. This leaves me even more in awe of little Rory's strengths.
Thank You with all my heart for your pledge per mile. Please click on the link to the right to donate your pledge x 60.
Or if you prefer other arrangements, please send me an email at: spiritrunning@gmail.com
Rory is my beautiful 2-year-old niece and god-daughter who was diagnosed with a rare form of late-stage, high-risk cancer on February 24th this year. She is a little fighter with a mighty spirit, brave through countless procedures, chemo treatments, therapies, and surgeries.
Rory is now walking with the help of her parents, a foot brace, and PT every day. I am so proud of her!
I commit! I won't quit! I am going to continue to work hard, hard and get as strong as i can to keep up with her. Way to set the bar up there, Rory!!
