I finally uploaded the photos from this Easter, as well as several from points along the Leadville 100 trail. They are a bit small to view in the slideshow, but still gives an idea.
Rory is finishing up her 3rd round of chemo today, and gets to go home again tomorrow. It sounds like the numbers they want to see are looking very good. She had surgery to get a new line put in to her heart, as the old one wasn't working properly - hopefully this one will bug her less, as it's short, and won't be sitting out on her body. The surgery and the chemo have gone well, the family exhausted as they stay with her and there is nowhere to sleep. They are looking forward to taking their little girl home.
I am eager to get back out to the trails- unfortunately I am not as on-track as Rory. I had let my ankle rest for a week, as it was stressed from my longer runs. I did my PT excercises for as well as other upkeep and walking. It's been much better and as I was ready to lace up and head out, I got sick- apparently a thing that's going around - got worse til I lost my voice, which still isn't back - enjoy it while it lasts, folks...:)
So, not a horrible setback, I am looking forward to getting out there - gotta catch up with Rory!
Well Folks, I gave it my all at the Leadville 100-Mile "Race Across the Sky" this year ~ I made it 60 miles!
I was late for the cutoff time, so did not go on.
My team was beyond incredible - and the support from all of you has been overwhelming.
My goal and belief had been to be stronger and able to gather more miles for your pledges ~ I also was humbled and learned a great deal about perseverence. This leaves me even more in awe of little Rory's strengths.
Thank You with all my heart for your pledge per mile. Please click on the link to the right to donate your pledge x 60.
Or if you prefer other arrangements, please send me an email at: spiritrunning@gmail.com
Rory is my beautiful 2-year-old niece and god-daughter who was diagnosed with a rare form of late-stage, high-risk cancer on February 24th this year. She is a little fighter with a mighty spirit, brave through countless procedures, chemo treatments, therapies, and surgeries.
Rory is now walking with the help of her parents, a foot brace, and PT every day. I am so proud of her!
I commit! I won't quit! I am going to continue to work hard, hard and get as strong as i can to keep up with her. Way to set the bar up there, Rory!!
